Ballycastle Shared Education Campus
ability to strengthen their schools’ long collaborative legacy, while preserving each school’ s ethos within a unified facility. The integration of a specialist SEN unit also reflects a commitment to inclusive teaching, supporting children and young people with diverse needs.
The campus is also intended as a community hub. Shared youth centres, climbing walls, and activity facilities will be managed by the EA’ s Youth Service, while council-operated sports spaces will be open during evenings and weekends. This multi-use design enhances value not only for pupils but for families and residents across Ballycastle and surrounding areas.
From initial planning discussions in 2019 to final approvals and construction commissioning, the project has navigated complex stakeholder relationships, including the Department of Education, Education Authority, the council, two school boards, and community representatives. Its cohesion is proof of shared purpose— and its bold funding strategy highlights a growing belief in purpose-built shared education as a lever for social progress across Northern Ireland.
With phase one set to deliver fully operational learning spaces by mid-2026 and sports amenities online by 2027, the Ballycastle Shared Education Campus is fast emerging as a landmark of educational investment, community integration, and future-focused design.
