with the fresh flowers. Furious, he scolded her
harshly, and cried out in a belligerent voice that he
wanted FOOD, not flowers.
Tears filled the first woman's eyes as she listened
to his angry outburst. She had picked the flowers
because she wanted to add beauty to the bounty of
their meal. At the same time, however, anger filled
her heart because the first man had spoken such
cruel, selfish words. Reluctant to start a fight, she

the sweet, heart-shaped berries,

strawberry plants. He stroked her
beautiful soft cheek. “I'm sorry,”
he whispered gently, bowing his
head in shame. She opened her
eyes and smiled when she saw
him. For the first woman, his
gentle words were sweeter than
the heart-shaped strawberries she
had hungrily eaten the evening
before.
This simple apology
rekindled her love for the first
man. Hopefully they lived happily ever after.
Now you know why strawberries are a symbol of love.
