landlubbers already include a beachfront village of
shops, restaurants, a $16 million parking garage,
new street, and a shaded walking area.
The contract for Bridge Design Associates, Inc., is
the first step in the $7 million pier renovation. The
design work and securing permits from county, state
and federal agencies is expected to take at least 12
months. If the city can get the Santé Manna, the
park's first phase could be completed this summer.
Beach residents are alarmed about the latest
developments fearing their lives will be disrupted

tourist destination. They are especially fearful that
the city will allow a big hotel to be built in the area,
bringing traffic and overcrowding.
