What one word best describes the Tattoo? Spectacular. Each year, thousands travel to Edinburgh
(“edin burra”) to attend the world's greatest assembly of military bands. But it is not just horns, drums,
and bagpipes, played with drilled precision, that
thrill audiences-the Tattoo recalls the Glory of
Empire, with colorful pomp and pageantry. In 2016,
the Tattoo has expanded to include bands from
some 48 nations.
The Tattoo venue, Edinburgh's Castle, could not
be more regal [see photo]. Performances are held at
9:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, and at 7:30 p.m.
and 10:30 p.m., Saturdays, with fireworks following
the 10:30 p.m. event.
