In 1822, a 12-acre orchard in Recoleta was
deemed BA’s first “public” cemetery. Today, visitors
enter an open-air museum, through Greek Neo-Clas-
sical columns. Within are some 6,400 mausoleums,
in Neo-Classical, Neo-Gothic, Art Nuevo, Art Deco,
and Modern styles, some as temples, cathedrals,
pyramids, and castles. Adorning sculptures and
carvings, many evocative of deep pathos, are worthy
of Donatello.
In Section H, Lot 88, an unadorned black marble
mausoleum holds the remains of Eva (Duarte)
