Geography

Geography’ s mission is to generate high quality research and teaching focused on the interactions between the human and physical environment. Research provides information and ideas for solving real world problems including climate change, terrorism, urban systems, and human and natural hazards. Researchers and students study the role of drought and fire in desert grasslands of the American Southwest and a 154 billion ton aquifer under Greenland’ s ice sheet. Students have the opportunity to learn about Geographic Information Systems( GIS), digital Earth imagery( remote sensing) and spatial modeling, and then apply what they have learned in several community projects like the Salt Lake Cooperative County Plan( CCP) and the Ashley National Forest Research Project.
