Family and Consumer Studies

Students and faculty in family and consumer studies examine how social, economic, political, and physical environments affect families, individuals, and consumers. FCS uses an interdisciplinary perspective in teaching, research, and service to understand families and how they are embedded in community and international contexts. Students have completed internships in a variety of settings including medical clinics serving the homeless, schools, family and community advocacy programs, money management centers and refugee resettlement agencies. The Child Family Development Center resides in the department, an accredited preschool that provides faculty and students the opportunity to study young children and their family dynamics.
