Political Science

The department of political science advances our understanding of the political world. Through teaching, research, and outreach, the department contributes to a more just, democratic, and sustainable future. Faculty research occurs in areas such as nuclear proliferation and international security, economic inequality and civic participation, immigration policy, ensuring free and fair elections around the world, public service ethics, and governmental responses to crises. As students take courses and conduct research, they gain a versatile set of skills that can be applied in careers in federal, state and local governments, law, business, international and non-profit organizations. Many students apply for local, national, and global internships through the Hinckley Institute of Politics, where they get hands-on experience working for government and non-profit organizations and public advocacy groups.
