Spider-Man: Homecoming

Spider-Man Homecoming was this summer’s superhero hit. Everyone loved it. The critics loved it (rare for a superhero movie). The audience loved it (far less rare for a superhero movie). I... Didn’t love it (unfortunately not necessarily rare for me.). I know, blasphemy, but give me a moment to explain myself. I didn’t think the movie was terrible, or even bad. It was well written, well acted, mostly true to the characters, but I just didn’t think it brought anything new to the table. It just felt like another Spider-Man movie. However, there was something good about the plot. It wasn’t another origin story. Peter was Spider-Man to start off, and went through the movie as such. It allowed for more time to develop other parts of the plot, such as school and home life. I honestly don’t think I can say much more without spoilers, but I’ll finish this off by saying I think that I went in with too high of expectations for a superhero comedy that everyone said was amazing.

Now for the people who saw the movie, there were two things you would hear people say about it; either they liked it or they hated it. The majority of the cause for people hating this film was the eerie scenes and an oooh so sweet clown. Scenes full of tension and the feeling as if something was about to reach out and brush your neck. Scenes to which people close their eyes, cover their ears and look away. Such as the room of clowns, which I'm sure you will love when you see it, but that's as far as my spoilers go. But when you watch IT, it may almost feel as if Pennywise is watching you. As the movie plays out, you start to understand the truth of this small suburban town and the darkness that lies within its sewer pipes, because if I'm correct that's where most of the filth of a town lays. This movie has been rated a solid 4 out of 5 and I would agree. It was thrilling experience to watch IT and I think people who love horror movies should watch it. Unless that is they are deathly afraid of clowns. But don't worry, you'll float to safety in the end.
