We Speak About Global Issues
Global issues are internationally affecting this world. 80% of humanity lives on less than $10 a day according to World Bank Developers. 2.7 million healthy years of life are lost due to child labor, and in 2016, 25,621 deaths were caused by terrorist attacks. Economically, global issues affect not only third world countries, but everywhere. As a highschool student, these global issues are prevalent in our society and focus highly on child labour and terrorism. One of the history teachers here at Silver Creek, Mrs. Grandsaert was open to being interviewed about these issues. “I feel very passionate about this and I think Silver Creek does a good job at making students aware of global issues. Things are being done, but not enough, and it's our responsibility along with the rest of the world to make more happen.” she stated. Global issues can range from poverty to climate change, from crime to global warming. The world is in controversy because of the global issues we continuously seem to run into. In this article, we will be discussing child labor and terrorism and how it's been affecting the world.
Child labor is one of the most prevalent global issues in our society right now. One of earth’s most populated countries India, has one of the largest child labor populations at 33 million children ages 5 to 18 working in factories and agriculture. “Studies in many countries have shown that children working in agriculture suffer from particularly high rates of injury. In the Philippines, for example, a survey found that children in agriculture had five times greater risk of injury compared with children working in other industries. (Castro 2010),” from Child Labor Project. In the future, Child Labor Project hopes to eliminate all child labor across the world. Child labor must be put to a stop. Mrs. Grandsaert stated, “I think the most important global issue is human rights currently. Human rights is like an umbrella and underneath are strands equal to each other like human trafficking, child labor, and sex trafficking. I think they're all equally important because although we say there's 1 million people human trafficked or 2 million sex slaves, they're all human and all important and means they should be treated equally.” Children who work instead of go to school or live a normal life get no education. When they get older, they have no background to get a job in the real world and most of them end up in poverty or dead since they can’t handle the real world on its own.
