FEEDING STRAY DOGS IN THE CAPITAL

T
he Karan Puri Foundation is a
registered trust under the Trust
Act. Th e foundation, located in
the capital city of New Delhi, has been set
up by Divya Puri to look aft er the street
animals of Delhi. Being a dedicated dog
lover, she has been feeding strays for the
past 15 years but the trust was set up
only in the year 2017.
Currently, the foundation is feeding 220
dogs every night with freshly prepared
meals made from rice and chicken. Th e
food is cooked in the Founder’s house
in the aft ernoon. It is then packed and
served to stray canines in the night.
Th e Karan Puri Foundation feeds dogs
in the neighborhood of New Friends
Colony including Bharat Nagar, Taimoor
Nagar, Sarai Jullena and Community
Center Market. Every night, Divya and
her associates go around the area and
feed these dogs in their own territory.
Th e process of feeding the stray dogs
takes around 2 hours every night. Th e
dogs are also checked for any injuries
and disease symptoms while feeding.
Th e team always carries a well-stocked
medical kit along with them. In case
of a wound or an injury, the dogs are
provided veterinary care on the spot.
Divya and her associates not only feed
the stray dogs but also sterilise and
vaccinate them annually with both 6-in-

1 and anti-rabies vaccine. Th ey have
successfully managed to keep the
stray dog population under control
through active sterilisation. Th ey
ensure that the stray dogs are disease-
free and pose no risk to the human
population and other dogs through
their annual vaccination program.
Th e Foundation also organises an
annual vaccination drive. Th is year
will be the 7th year of this vaccination
camp.
