Counteracting the life shortening effects of our sedentary
lifestyles
What can we do to combat these ill effects and how can we
change our
habits to become less chair bound? It’s quite simple
really…STAND UP AND MOVE.
• Keep track of how much you sit
each day and make a conscious
effort to reduce that time.
• Park further away from
entrances at work and at
shopping centres, so you get to
walk.
• Take the stairs not the elevator;
walk to speak to your
colleagues instead of sending
an email.
• Invest in a standing desk at
home and at work or place a
stack of books under your lap
top and stand at your desk.
• Make it a habit to take your
furry friends for long afternoon
walks at least a few times a
week.
• When watching TV, stand up
and move around during ad
breaks.
