SCIENCE Additional Fees: Some classes will require outside projects for which parents will provide the necessary supplies. Classroom teachers will communicate this to you. PHYSCI Physical Science 1 credit year long Grade 9 (Required) This course will aid the student in gaining a more complete understanding of the physical laws of our universe. The scientific method, with emphasis on observation, experimentation, and documentation are used throughout the year. Students will explore physical laws related to matter and energy. BIO Biology 1 credit year long Grade 10 (Required) The purpose of this course is to make the student more aware of biological concepts and the impacts they have on human civilization. This course will focus on the following concepts: organization, energy and material utilization, interpretation of the environment, continuity of life, structure and function, and change over time. CHEM Chemistry 1 credit year long Grades 11 & 12 Chemistry is the study of the composition of matter and the interactions between atoms and molecules. Included in the course are lab activities and content relating to the major themes of chemistry including atomic theory, bonding, stoichiometry, and solution chemistry. ADCHEM Advanced Chemistry 1 credit year long Grades 11&12 A college level, lecture-based course addressing major topics in chemistry such as the structure of matter, kinetic theory of gases, chemical equilibria, chemical kinetics, and the basic concepts of thermodynamics. This course is very demanding and is suggested for all students expecting to attend college. PHYSICS Physics 1 credit year long Grades 11 & 12 This course is the study of matter and motion in the universe. Included in the course are lab activities and content relating to the major themes of physics including motion, forces, mechanics, and energy. This is one of the classes that will fulfill the physical science course requirement. ASTRO Astronomy/Meteorology ½ credit semester Grades 10 - 12 In this course, students explore the physical nature of the atmosphere, solar system, and universe. In addition, students will collect meteorological data, predict weather, observe celestial bodies, and build astronomical and meteorological data collection devices. ANAPHY Anatomy/Physiology ½ credit semester Grades 11 & 12 Basic principles of human anatomy and physiology are explored in this course. Topics include an exploration of the body systems, anatomical terminology, biochemistry, and an introduction to common human diseases. 41
