FOREIGN LANGUAGE Additional Fees: Some classes will require outside projects for which parents will provide the necessary supplies. Classroom teachers will communicate this to you. SPAN1 Spanish I 1 credit year long This course is an introduction to the study of the language. Students will learn basic grammar, vocabulary, and conversational patterns in Spanish. The class is designed to cover the present tense verbs thoroughly. Reading, writing, listening and speaking Spanish will also be stressed. This course is strongly recommended for anyone planning on attending college. SPAN2 Spanish II 1 credit year long A second level course designed to continue work of grammar, vocabulary and conversational patterns in Spanish. Reading, writing, listening and speaking Spanish is continued and stressed. Additional verb tenses are studied. This course is strongly recommended for anyone who has successfully taken Spanish I and who is planning on attending college. Prerequisite: Spanish I and course assessment SPAN3 Spanish III 1 credit year long This course is an advanced language course in which students will work with composition, translation and conversation. Cultural study of Spanish speaking countries will also be covered. This course is recommended for any student who successfully completed Spanish I and II, and is open to more intensive language acquisition. Prerequisite: Spanish II and course assessment SPAN4 Spanish IV 1 credit year long This course will involve the development of advanced conversational skills, composition in Spanish, advanced grammatical patterns, and a sampling of literature in Spanish. This course is strongly recommended for any student who has successfully completed Spanish I - III and would like the challenge of a more intensive course directed at communication (oral and written). Prerequisite: Spanish III and course assessment SPAN5 AP Spanish Language 1 credit year long AP Spanish Language is intended for students who wish to develop proficiency and integrate their language skills, using authentic materials and sources. Students who enroll should already have a basic knowledge of the language and cultures of Spanish-speaking peoples and should have attained a reasonable proficiency in using the language. Prerequisite: Spanish IV and course assessment 33
