FAMILY AND CONSUMER EDUCATION Additional Fees: Some classes will require outside projects for which parents will provide the necessary supplies. Classroom teachers will communicate this to you. In addition, High School classes in technology and art will require additional fees when class projects are differentiated. Each student will be charged for materials used. These fees will be projected prior to a student building/creating the project. LIFSK2 Life Skills Foods 1 credit year long Grades 9 - 12 This course is offered every other year. It will include skills/concepts that involve becoming independent in the kitchen and the community. The curriculum will be broken down and modified at a slower pace. Great to take before participating in Basic Foods, International Foods, or any other Family and Consumer Economics class. Topics include: Nutrition and food groups, Kitchen safety and sanitation, Kitchen equipment and utensils, Food preparation, Reading recipes, labels, and coupons, and Community awareness (including mealtime etiquette and grocery shopping). Students will participate in a number of labs to increase their basic skills knowledge in the kitchen. BAFOOD Basic Foods ½ credit semester Grades 9 - 12 Learn the basic skills of planning, preparing and serving appetizing and nutritious foods in a safe and sanitary environment. In this hands-on class you will have a chance to practice a variety of techniques using common tools in the kitchen, with approximately one “labs” per week. All specific food groups will be studied, and a complete holiday-type meal will be prepared. You will also try your hand at quantity food preparation working in the “Lunches To Go” lab. A fee is required for this course.
