ARTAPP Art Appreciation ½ credit semester Grades 10 – 12 This course is designed to give the students a basic knowledge of the history and appreciation of art! Many cultural heritages, including Mexican, African, Western European and Asian, will be evaluated through slides, videos, books, magazines, computers, field trips, lectures, and studio experiences. Students explore the four disciplines of art: art history, art criticism, aesthetics, and studio production. A broad range of artistic styles, media, and ideas from the past and present are used to examine the relationships and meaningful contributions of art to society. INDART Directed Independent Art ½ credit semester Grade 12 Consent of instructor Directed Independent Art is designed to provide advanced art students with the opportunity for indepth study in their field of interest. A course of art projects agreed upon between the student and the instructor. Students will be required to: 1. Write a contract with the cooperating teacher outlining the projects to be accomplished each quarter. 2. Do research appropriate for each project. 3. Keep a sketchbook of ideas, drawings, and notes throughout the year. 4. Complete the work contracted each term. 5. Prepare a portfolio for art school admissions, scholarship competitions or art shows. YAART Youth Apprenticeship - Art ½ credit semester Grades 11 & 12 If the student is serious about a career in the Art area, then this program is for them. This program involves being enrolled in courses that allow the student to gain the competencies needed a career in Art. Students interested in Art need to enroll in art classes. Students must complete 450 hours of work experience and attain the competencies to obtain Art Youth Apprenticeship Certificate. Students that are interested in this program must contact the Guidance Office for an application form and to be enrolled initially, pending employment. 19
