Lecture Afternoon & Rene Rene Spada picked up the reins of this committee from Kim MacCallum. The trend over the past years shows decreased number of attendees of the evening events. There are a number of reasons for this, e.g. time of the day which is not always convenient for those with families, traffic and location. Times and venues for the lecture evenings were therefore changed to see if we could pick up any preferences. The events hosted this year were moved to late afternoon slots and the attendance was similar to evening events, as such the evening events will be re-awoken in 2018. Thank you to Evonik for the use of their facilities in Midrand for these afternoon lectures. The following lectures were presented in 2017: Think with Google Beauty Trends 2017 held on 12 May 2017 presented by Kim McCallum, Vantage Specialty Chemicals Each market, be it Japan or the US, has their own distinct values when it comes to skin care. These trends are important for Africa, as parts of the continent are influenced by France and the USA. Facial masks is a leading trend, while skin bleaching is declining – good news in light of the damaging effects. The vegan trend is growing, and in France the anti-cellulite trend is still growing. In the mask trend, treatment for acne skin is the main reason. A trend to watch is also Men’s skin care. Summary of Cosmetic Trend Predictions from the World’s leading provider of Market Research held on 2 June 2017 presented by Chantal O’Brien De Villiers, Materia Medica Four main trends emerged, they are: 1. Active Beauty, as more and more women exercise in their quest for better health. Cosmetic manufacturers are embracing this trend with products to protect the skin during and after excising. 2. Damsels in Distress: Many office workers are close to burnout. Cosmetic manufacturers are picking up on this trend and launching calming creams. 3. Back to Basics: Consumers want to simplify their lives. They no longer want to be faced with lengthy ingredient lists on their facial care products. They prefer the simplicity of the products their grannies used, e.g. coconut oil and brown sugar. Cosmetic manufacturers are responding by stripping down their formulations to the bare minimum. 4. Beauty Around the Clock: Beauty manufacturers are responding by offering products that addresses all stressors your skin are exposed to during the day, e.g. claiming anti-stress, anti-pollution, protection against airborne diseases, protection against blue light from computer screens, tablets and cellular phones.
