How to Run for Office : An Hour-by-Hour Walkthrough
This is the third and final edition of my column detailing the what , why , and how on running for VJCL student office , if you haven ’ t seen the other two check out the wonderful winter and spring forums ! In this article , we ’ ll be going over an hour-by-hour walkthrough of what it ’ s like to be a candidate for VJCL office at state convention . If you ’ re a candidate convention starts Saturday night ; over the next thirty-six hours , you will generously get five hours of sleep , so on the night before convention make sure you have your campaign materials , clothes , and supplies ready for convention . Also , get a full eight hours of sleep , trust me you ’ ll thank me later . As you wake up at 4:30 a . m . the next morning , yearning for more sleep , there are still some things you should do though . If you are traveling with your school do not be late for your bus , even be early if possible . You will likely need to speak to your sponsor and the morning is probably the best time to do it .
Once you get to the convention center be quick to sign up for any competitions you may be competing in , then try to find the Parliamentarian ( yours truly ) if you need to ask any lastminute questions ( or even just to introduce yourself in person ). Make sure that until Nom-Com you mention your campaign to absolutely nobody except for people from your school and the Parliamentarian : pre-campaigning is strictly forbidden by the VJCL and could lead to your disqualification from running .
