Bylaws — Article III

Section 7 /

Duties of the

Historian

The Historian is best known for the annual NJCL Scrapbook that they create every year . However , the office ’ s duties go beyond this .
The Bylaws state that the Historian must
“ compile records for the annuals , file all NJCL materials of historical interest , keep a scrapbook , and properly safeguard all these materials .”
All these are highlight different aspects of the Historian ’ s main duty : compiling and preserving the history of the NJCL . This involves collecting old records , organizing them , and archiving them for later reference .
This is also the purpose of the scrapbook : to neatly present a year ’ s JCL events for historical preservation .

Note : Special Rules

Alongside the Constitution and Bylaws , the NJCL also has a number of special rules documents , which have more priority than Robert ’ s Rules but less priority than the Bylaws .
One such document is the Executive Board Handbook and Election Guide , which contains even more duties for officers ( among other things ). The Historian , for example , also has to update the JCL history and run the Scrapbook Contest .

How do I do it ?

Your historian or equivalent officer can mostly mirror the NJCL ’ s : collecting and creating materials for historical purposes . Alongside gathering old materials and making a scrapbook , this can also include taking photos at events . You can also have your historian run any relevant contests ( e . g ., local scrapbook contests , photo contests ).
If your historian creates a scrapbook , you may also want to require them to submit the scrapbook to the NJCL Scrapbook Contest .
