Section 4 /
Duties of the
Second Vice President
11
The Second Vice President ’ s duties revolve around activities and spirit .
Activities
According to the Bylaws , the Second Vice President serves a resource that local chapter officers can contact about “ suitable programs for their chapters ”, such as service projects or other activities .
The Second Vice President must also contribute articles to the TORCH : U . S . ( NJCL ’ s publication ) and State JCL publications about successful activities in other States and local chapters .
Spirit
Perhaps the best known aspect of the Second Vice President is their role in spirit . The Second Vice President is in charge of the NJCL Convention ’ s spirit contest . Thus , it ’ s up to them to choose spirit themes , communicate them to State chapters , and lead the contest at the convention .
How do I do it ?
If your JCL has any service projects , spirit contests ( including roll call ), etc ., they can be entrusted to your second vice president or equivalent officer .
Do I need two vice presidents ?
Many State and local JCLs have only one vice president , a reason being that there isn ’ t enough to be done for membership , publicity , activities , service , and / or spirit to justify two offices . And even if you do have two , their duties can be different than those of the NJCL ’ s vice presidents .
All in all , your officers and their duties should fit the needs of your JCL . If you need more or fewer officers than the NJCL — or if you need them to do different things — don ’ t hesitate to make those changes .
