Convention

How do I do it ?

If your JCL has its own events ( e . g ., a State convention ), you can follow the format that the NJCL Constitution uses in Article VIII .

1 . Define the event .

Start by establishing some basic information about your event :
1 . What is it called ? 2 . When is it held ? 3 . Where is it held ? 4 . Why is it held ?
Let ’ s take a look at this example :
“ A convention , named the SpartaJCL Convention , shall be held annually before May 1 ; at the SpartaJCL President ’ s local chapter unless otherwise determined by the SpartaJCL Board ; at a date determined by the SpartaJCL Board ; and for the purpose of holding Board elections and hosting activities that promote Article II , ‘ Object ’.”
1 . What : The SpartaJCL Convention . 2 . When : Annually before May 1 . The exact date is decided by the Board . 3 . Where : At the local chapter of the President . 4 . Why : To hold elections for the board and host activities that promote the
SpartaJCL ’ s object .

2 . Define any fundamental rules .

After a basic definition , include any other rules that you feel should be enshrined in your constitution . Do note that any convention rule in your constitution will require a constitutional amendment to change , so don ’ t include every minor rule . The NJCL , for example , just establishes state delegations & voting procedure .
