GISD selected for five-year prestigious partnership
Garland ISD is proud to be one of six districts chosen for The Holdsworth Center Partnership , a five-year journey that will help us grow more strong , inspiring leaders to help teachers thrive and students succeed .
All programming and support — valued at $ 6 million — is covered at no cost through the generosity of Holdsworth founder and H-E-B Chairman Charles Butt , along with other philanthropic supporters .
GISD was chosen from a pool of 43 applicants after a detailed process that included a written application and a series of remote interviews with central office leaders , board members and principals . Holdsworth team members were looking for districts who were ready , willing and able to drive major changes that would result in excellent and equitable outcomes for all students .

We are excited to collaborate with this group of exceptionally thoughtful leaders as they pursue equity and excellence for all students ,” said Pauline Dow , Holdsworth ’ s vice president .
Garland ISD joins Cedar Hill , Dallas , East Central , Laredo and Victoria ISDs in the 2021 cohort .

Introducing ICON Virtual School
Garland ISD prides itself in providing the best in education for all learners . To meet the needs of our students who are currently thriving in remote instruction , GISD launched the ICON Virtual School program . This innovative , online curriculum will be offered to students who choose to be completely virtual in the fall . Unlike our current hybrid model , all classes will be virtual with a staff who will teach 100 % online . Students who apply for ICON Virtual School are committing to a full year of virtual instruction . Over 1,400 applications were submitted for participation in its inaugural year . Go for the Gold at summer Intersession
Get ready to “ Go for the Gold ” at our third fun-filled Intersession June 14 – 17 and 21 – 24 . Participating students will have special , four-hour days that include breakfast , two learning sessions , lunch , contests and more . And best of all — it ’ s FREE !
The summer Olympics-themed event will provide students with opportunities for acceleration , enrichment and intervention throughout each week . Every campus in Garland ISD has tailored each week ' s instruction and activities to their participating inperson and remote learners . Our summer Intersession will focus on mathematics , literacy , end of course exams , and college , career and military readiness .
