O recorte seguinte tras a biografia de RO, que por estudar engenharia ambiental interessou- se pela disciplina oferecida pela NOVA e pelos estudos sobre o cerrado brasileiro. [03 – Biografia/Dropbox/2014] My name’s RO and I’m 20 years old. I study Environmental Engineering with a focus on water filtration. I enjoy healthy living, growing vegetables, bicycle riding, salsa dancing, playing guitar and reading books on activism. I like to live simply and sus- tainably, shop local and keep in the environment in mind. I come from a very big family of six kids and Puerto Rican descent. I am very pas- sionate about social justice issues regarding filtered water, uncontaminated soil, breathable air and access to land to grow food. I worked in the Solid Waste Manage - ment field this past summer on waste reduction, recycling and resource recovery. I would like to focus my academics on water related issues such as quality, access to wells, filtration and storage. I am excited to meet you all. As biografias também foram importantes como recurso auxiliar na definição das subtemáticas ambientais que os participantes enfocariam durante as visitas a Brasília e re- giões goianas. Em 2014, as subtemáticas definidas pelos participantes foram: (1) Arquite- tura e sustentabilidade (Architecture and sustainability); (2) Saúde e questões ambientais: saneamento (Health and environmental issues: sanitation); (3) Mudanças climáticas (Cli- mate change); (4) Poluição da água e fontes naturais de água (Water pollution and water natural resources). Já em 2015, temos: (1) Práticas sustentáveis: design de construções ecológicas (Sustainable practices: ecological building design); (2) Práticas de permacultu- ra para tratamento de água (Permaculture practices for water treatment); (3) Aquecimento de água solar (Solar water heater); e (4) Ecoturismo como um recurso para fazendas (How ecoturism is a sustainable way to farm). 1191
