On March 23rd, E.S. King Village, an international neighbourhood at NC
State, held an International Festival. Many international students and scholars
from over ten different countries live in E.S. King Village. CI was invited to this
festival to demonstrate Chinese food and culture. Our CI’s calligraphy table
drew many international scholars’ interest as they traced Chinese greetings
and wrote their names in Chinese. On our food table, CI provided traditional
Chinese snacks, such as Shaqima, pineapple cakes, and coconut candies.
Several Chinese scholars came to the festival to help demonstrate how to make
hand-made dumplings. In this year’s festival, there were more than 10 booths
showcasing food and cultures of different countries, including Thailand, India,
Japan, Korea, Turkey, Egypt, and Indonesia. Aside from the delicious food,
cultural performances, such as Taichi, Aikido, and Indian dancing, were also
a crucial part of the festival. More than 300 people attended the festival. E.S.
King Village said they would like to host this event every year in the future.
