Jiangsu Principals Delegation Visit
On September 20, a group of 20 top education officials from China visited North Carolina to learn about education systems in the state. The visit is being carried out under a 2008 Memorandum of Understanding between the N. C. State Board of Education and the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Education. The agreement supports expansion of international learning at the K-12 level with partnerships between North Carolina schools and
schools in Jiangsu Province.
Upon arriving at the Visitor Center, they were greeted by the Confucius Institute and College of Education staffs. After viewing presentations on the North Carolina State University’ s Confucius Institute and College of Education, the 20 education officials also toured NC State’ s beautiful campus and witnessed first hand the exciting life of
American college students.

Enloe High School Confucius Classroom Opening
In the afternoon of September 20, the Confucius Institute at NC
State and the Jiangsu Principals Delegation group attended the Confucius Classroom Opening Ceremony at Enloe High School, a magnet school located in East Raleigh. NC State University’ s Vice Provost Dr. Louis Hunt congratulated Enloe’ s new Confucius Classroom with a short speech. Both CI and the Jiangsu
Delegation group also had a chance to visit Enloe’ s Intro to Chinese class to encourage and inspire students to keep learning Chinese. Enloe High School’ s Confucius Classroom, following St. Augustine’ s College, is CI’ s third collaboration in the state of
North Carolina.

Appreciation for Chinese Calligraphy and Painting
On September 17 & 24, CI held a special event in honor of Chinese calligraphy and painting. The event focused on techniques and basic appreciation of the art form. With CI’ s assistance, the e x p e r ienced c a l l ig r a p h e r Mr. Wang Qiwu ran the event; he gave extensive demonstrations of stroke techniques and basic outlines on how to work on calligraphy. While they were watching the demonstration, participants at the event were able to replicate the calligraphy they were shown on their own papers. The event gave participants the chance to try a new art form and learn a little about the art of Chinese
calligraphy and painting.
