over ninety successful years impacting schools around Northeast Ohio , the CARE ( Compassionate Arts Remaking Education ) National Project was launched in Buffalo and Las Vegas in 2022 , offering programing that draws on lessons from social-emotional learning theories , trauma-informed care , and evidence-based literacy learning at no cost to students or families . CARE uses theatre techniques and exercises to help students develop empathy and broaden their understanding of each other and the world around them , empowering them with valuable tools that can be applied throughout their lives . In this session led by National CARE Director Thomas Kazmierczak , you will see photos and watch videos of CARE in action , take a look at the science behind the CARE program , and participate in real-time , interactive CARE games and activities . CPH recognizes that rich relationships among the students in the program and CARE Teaching Artists play a catalytic role in creating a stronger , more deeply connected , and compassionate school communities . You will also have the opportunity to connect with the Associate Director of CARE Cleveland Jenna Messina and Andrew Wright , who leads the CARE program from the Smith Center for the Arts in Las Vegas , NV , to discuss how these relationships are formed and maintained , and why CARE has garnered national attention to become a high-demand and integral part of the academic achievement plan of schools districts it serves .

Diversity Training in Theatre Teacher Training Programs Presenter : Amanda Dawson
This poster will detail and year-long research project that asks the question , “ What inclusive teaching practices are taught in college / university theatre teacher training programs ?” Additional questions include , “ What does the current curriculum offer that speaks to EDI practices ? How are EDI strategies taught ? What materials ( texts , articles , plays , and more ) are used in these courses ?” Over the past year , we collected data and conducted site visits which included interviews and class observations in Utah at Utah State University , University of Utah , Brigham Young University , Utah Valley University , Southern Utah University , and Weber State University . We investigated how these higher education training programs are preparing K-12 theatre teachers for the classroom as it relates to equity , diversity , and inclusion . We are excited to share our findings . This work is phase 1 of a larger project . Phase 2 is forthcoming and will include an analysis of additional theatre education training programs across the country .

Join this poster session for ideas about how to rethink your use of stages , classrooms , and other spaces within a school to create performance and rehearsal areas . We will share ideas for how to build effective designs on a budget using school and outside resources as well as ways to include as many members of the school and surrounding community as possible in theater productions . Museum theater exposes participants to historic contexts in arranged time frames through live performances , where people can become immersed through sensory bonding and human connection . This responsive
