Our initial project findings ( drawn from mixed-method and arts-based data ) show that arts-based , YPAR approaches to climate change literacy begin to unsettle the nature / culture divide while making space for affective connection , so that participants ’ curiosities and inquiries could inhabit and hold the messiness of curriculum redesign and climate justice . This panel will feature voices of various teaching artists , teachers , and youth participants sharing their experiences in creating and experiencing this new curriculum .

Following the success of the November Symposium in Arkansas TheatreSquared and the Scott Family Amazeum join forces again for a session that explores how a regional theatre and a children ’ s museum can collaborate to create interactive performances . We ’ ll share a behind-the-scenes look at the process of cocreating performances that infuse the magic of interactive performance with the hands-on pedagogy of STEAM education . In this workshop , you will participate in a devising experience that draws inspiration from STEAM activities and interactive theatre strategies . The workshop will culminate in the sharing of short performances and a discussion imagining the possibilities of utilizing these strategies in your community .

Why this play ? Why this place ? Why this moment ? With so many competing interests , choosing a theatre season for your school can be a daunting task . But how might you take on substantive works of theatre that challenge and support the larger school community ? How might you do so in a way that feels encouraging rather than threatening ? In a way that invites difficult but essential conversations ? In a way that is relevant and specific ? How might theatre become a catalyst for learning and growth in the life of a school (& not just for the “ theatre-kids ”)? This workshop explores one model of theatre & community engagement and interrogates the ways that show choice can become a change-maker in the larger school community . Please note : this workshop will focus on upper school student life & will include some discussion of mental health topics , including depression and suicide .

The power of the facilitator and the agency of the participant is dynamic and ever-changing . As facilitators , we want to create immersive artistic experiences for young people that are relevant to their lives and frame their learning . This session will consider the ethics of facilitation through hands-on drama and movement activities appropriate for all participants , as well as by examining problems of practice in discussion , so that our teaching doesn ' t unintentionally end up reproducing the oppressive structures we ' re trying to critique .
