trials and tribulations . This is where it ’ s easy to forget all the things you love about events – I just wanted to lend a helping hand and offer some helpful tips I ’ ve learned or been taught along the way that might help you find your way again .
Take control Only you are in control of your career . There will of course be mentors and supporters along the way but if you want something , then you need to be the person to go and make it happen . Going out of your comfort zone might be scary at first , but as harsh as it is , there is no growth in the comfort zone . As soon as the first initial step is out of the way , it gets easier . Take a panel discussion or presentation for example . Everyone only pays attention to you and is engaged as long as you know where you ’ re going with it , everything starts with you .
The feeling of flourishing after knowing you put yourself out there will make reaping the rewards so much more worthwhile .
Always be grateful Mentors and managers are your biggest cheerleaders , they understand the industry along with you and can help you in ways you might not know you need , whether it ’ s reminding you of all of your successes , a motivational chat or mitigating any self-doubt you might have . Making them feel appreciated by treating them to a coffee or a gift , or even just saying thank you , goes a long way – it ’ ll also aid you in feeling supported , accomplished , and in turn , more confident for what ’ s next .
Work-life balance is key The sooner this is put into practice , the better . After years of juggling my strong commitment to my work , seeing family , seeing friends , and taking time out for myself , it ’ s important to learn to plan your life accordingly . This could be by day , week or month . I find planning week by week works for me , looking ahead to what ’ s coming up for the next week and how I can factor in time for everything helps me massively .
Once you drill down into what makes you happy , you can prioritise and make time for everything you need . Take a step back to reframe our thinking rather than having a scattergun approach . CN www . conference-news . co . uk
