Air Pollution
Burning leaves , trash and other material is prohibited . Strict standards govern fuel burning equipment and pollution emissions .
Assessment of Real Property
Nearly 78 percent of local revenue comes from taxes upon real property within the Borough . Property is assessed at its full true value . Property owners who believe that there is incorrect or excessive assessment may consult with the Tax Assessor ’ s Office in the Municipal Building , and may appeal the assessment to the Bergen County Board of Taxation by filing no later than April 1 . Bicycles & Go-Peds
All bicycles & go-peds must be registered by the police .
Blood Pressure Screening
Free , offered on the last Monday of the month except May and December at the Borough Hall from 1:30 to 3:30 PM .
Building Permits
Building permits are required for construction , alteration and renovation of residential and commercial buildings . Separate permits are required for plumbing , heating and electrical work and for sidewalks and driveways .

Curbside Pick-up
Newspapers , cans , plastic & glass bottles can be left on the curb in front of your house for pick-up on regular scheduled days . Call the Recycling Center for times 201-794-5304 .
Flooded Basements
Fair Lawn Heavy Rescue Squad is equipped to pump out basements in periods of flood .
Garbage Collection
Garbage is collected at the curb twice aweek from June through September and once a week the rest of the year . The Borough is divided into districts with collection schedules of Monday through Saturday . Furniture , mattresses and carpet that are rolled and tied may be placed with your garbage for collection within certain standards .
