Juvenile Delinquency
The Juvenile Conference Committee assists the Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court in first offender matters referred by the Court of Hackensack .
Leaf Collection
Only leaves which fall from the trees within 10 feet of the curb may be raked into the streets for collection by the Department of Public Works . All other leaves must be put into biodegradable bags and placed on the curb for collection with yard waste .
Municipal Court
Complaints on violations of traffic laws , borough ordinances and disorderly person offenses are heard by the Municipal Court , serious criminal offenses are forwarded to the County Prosecutor for action by the Grand Jury . Fair Lawn Municipal Court holds court sessions on Wednesday evenings and Friday afternoons in the Municipal Building on Fair Lawn Avenue .
Neighborhood Block Watch
Neighborhood Watch is a volunteer organization of Borough residents , organized in local groups , who discourage burglary by watching vacant and temporarily unoccupied houses on a cooperative basis . Visit www . fairlawnpd . com for more information .
Noise
Loud and unnecessary noise is prohibited between 11 pm and 7am .
Leaf blowers can be operated only 8am-8 pm on weekdays and 9am-9 pm on weekends and legal holidays provided they produce fewer than 85 decibels .
Parking
Parking is prohibited on Borough streets between the hours of 2amto6am . Vehicles may not be placed on sidewalks or lawns .
Recycling Center
Recycling material may be dropped off at 20-05 Saddle River Road . Monday through Friday : 8 am-4 pm , Saturday : 9 am-1 pm , Sunday : 12 pm-4 pm . 201-794-5304 , www . fairlawn . org / recycling /
Rent Control
Apartment rents are controlled by a Borough ordinance , which is supervised by an appointed Rent Leveling Board .
Water Pollution
The Sanitary Code prohibits the addition of any pollutant to the water supply and the maintenance of stagnant water . It is against the law to throw harmful material into storm drains , brooks or ponds .
Zoning
Fair Lawn ’ s Zoning Code divides the Borough into many zone districts known as :
Residential : R-1-1 One family homes on 10,000 sq . ft . Lot area ; R 1-2 One family homes on 7,500 sq . ft . Lot area ; R-1-3 One family homes on 6,500 sq . ft . lot area . These districts also permit houses of worship , residence for clergy , schools , agricultural operation and home occupations .
Multiple Dwelling Zones : R-2 Two family homes on 12,000 sq . ft . area ; R-3 apartment complex with 20 families per acre ; R-4 Apartment complex with 1 families per acre ; R- 5-1
Townhouses : at 7 units per acres ; R-5-2 Townhouses at 10 units per acre these zones also allow hospitals and any use permitted in the residential districts .
Commercial : B-1 Restricted Business ; B-2 General Business ; B-3 Business ; OBS-1 Office and Business Services District ; OBS-2 Office and Business Services District : HD Highway Development District
Industrial : 1-1 Restricted Industrial ; 1-2 General Industrial District
