Youth Enrichment League: Chess Team
Join the team and get into the game you love to play. Our chess team focuses on
developing competitor’s chess skills, knowledge, analytical abilities and intellectual
strength through lessons, puzzles and perfect practice. Our team will compete
against other teams at meets and compete in local and state tournaments. Create
a checkmate today! The instructor is National Chess Master and former MN State
Champion, Nathan Hoover.

Youth Enrichment League: Grandmasters of Chess
Challenge yourself and develop thinking strategies with this brilliant and complex
game! Beginners will learn piece movement, capturing, check, checkmate, castling
and more. Returning stu dents will study intermediate lessons such as King Rook
Checkmate and Gaining Opposition, and should bring chess booklets and dollars
to class. Advanced students will study Queen Sacrifices, Back Rank Mates and
advanced theory.

3-D VIRTUAL GAME WORLD DESIGN
Learn the basic techniques used to create 3-D gaming environments with Platinum
Arts Sandbox Game Maker software. Working in pairs on a computer, you’ll learn
to create rotating objects, add visual and audio effects, and experiment with
textures. Create structures, buildings, tunnels, stairs, and outdoor terrains such as
mountains and lakes. Explore scripting and use your imagination to create a unique
3-D game environment that you can download at home. (Windows only)

Learn and demonstrate your skills and knowledge about Science, Technology,
Engineering, and Math (STEM) principals. Design, construct, and program a robot
that navigates a playing field with obstacles and attempts to complete tasks only
a robot could do. This year, you’ll embark on an exploration of the earth’s climate
in the Climate Connections Challenge. Compete against the other Anoka-Hennepin
School District teams on Saturday, April 18. Each middle school has a robotics team,
check with your Community Education office for program information and dates.
