Learn by colour BALL POSITION AND STANCE WIDTH The ball position relative to your stance has a significant influence on your swing path (the direction the clubhead is travelling) and attack angle (how steeply the clubhead descends into the back of the ball). You want the clubhead to naturally be square to the target as it makes impact with the ball for a straight shot, but the optimum attack angle changes for each club – the more loft you have, the steeper your attack should be. DRIVER The red strips show the wider stance and ball position just inside the left heel that you need to hit the driver with a parallel attack angle or slightly on the up. FAIRWAY WOOD /LONG IRON The green strips show the slightly narrower stance and ball position you need to sweep fairway woods and long irons with a slightly descending blow. MID-IRONS The blue strips show the shoulder-width stance and centre or just ahead of centre ball position you need to compress your mid-irons with a downward attack angle.
