SET UP FOR PERFECT PITCHING A lot of amateur golfers are poor pitchers of the ball because they don’t adapt their address position properly from their full swing set-up. Your address position should enable you to make a finesse swing that delivers the clubhead very precisely and consistently at impact. You can get into the perfect position by following these four simple steps. 1 Position parallel yellow strips for your target line and foot line, and red strips for your ball position and clubface reference. Place another yellow strip inside the furthest red strip at about a 30° angle towards the target. Stand square to the target line so the club points down the red line. 3 Bend forwards from the hips and soften your knees to get into your posture and drop the clubhead down just in front of the ball with a vertical shaft so your hands are just ahead of the ball. 76 Golf World November 2017 2 Turn your upper body towards the target until the club is pointing down that additional yellow strip to shift your sternum slightly ahead of the ball and ever so slightly favour the left side with your weight. 4 Now simply move the clubhead so it sits behind the ball without moving your hands to introduce the correct amount of forward shaft lean. The low point of your swing arc is just after the ball so you can hit down on the ball and make a crisp contact.
