CHEROHALA SKYWAY–The Skyway is
one of the most scenic and well-
planned roads located in Eastern
Tennessee and Western North Carolina.
It crosses through the Cherokee
National Forest in Tennessee and the
Nantahala Forest in North Carolina,
connecting the two states at Tellico
Plains, Tennessee and Robbinsville,
North Carolina. The Cherohala Skyway
was completed in October 1996 and is
a designated National Scenic Byway.
Note: The Cherohala is a favorite
ride for many during the NC Road &
Trails Rally, which is held the first
weekend in April each year.
TOTAL ROUTE: 53 miles (approximate
ride time is 2 hours). The side trips list-
ed will add time and distance to this.
START AND END: Tellico Plains,
Tennessee and Robbinsville, North
Carolina.
RESTAURANT STOPS: Take your pick,
there are great places to eat in Tellico
Plains and Robbinsville. I enjoy the
Town Square Café & Bakery in Tellico
Plains, great salmon patties when
available. In Robbinsville many CMA’ers
really like The Hub.
TIPS: Visit the Cherohala Skyway
Visitor Center in Tellico, Tennessee or
the Graham County Visitor Center in
