National Evangelist . HEADING out from legendary Sturgis , find your way south to historic Deadwood on Hwy 14A , transitioning through Deadwood to Hwy 385 . Wind your way south on 385 as you pass Pactola Reservoir , the largest and deepest reservoir in the Black Hills , with depths up to 150 ft . From Pactola , continue south through Hill City , and another 19 miles will bring you into Custer . You can exit Hwy 385 and take 244 to Mount Rushmore or , farther south , the Avenue of the Chiefs to Crazy Horse Memorial .
