THIS MAY, A VISION FOR a fully integrated hub for breast cancer care came to fruition when Renown Health opened the Conrad Breast Center at the South Meadows Specialty Care Center. Part of Renown Health’ s William N. Pennington Cancer Institute, the 25,000-square-foot Conrad Breast Center features the complete range of services patients need throughout their journey with breast cancer.
“ We’ ve created a comprehensive breast cancer center that offers the full spectrum of coordinated, multidisciplinary care, from screening and diagnosis to treatment, recovery and survivorship, all under one roof supported by a tightly integrated team,” says Kate Ward, PharmD, BCPS, vice president of Oncology at the William N. Pennington Cancer Institute.“ Having both clinical and supportive care teams work with patients at the same location breaks down the silos they experience when they have to see multiple clinicians at different clinics.”
The first of its kind in northern Nevada, the Conrad Breast Center benefits patients with breast cancer and those with any form of the disease.
Home for Cancer Thrivership In the fall of 2024, with support from the William N. Pennington Cancer Institute, Madeline Hardacre, MD, launched a first-of-its-kind program in northern Nevada: a wellness program to give patients with cancer access to evidence-based tools to optimize their physical health and emotional well-being.
“ Our plans for Renown Oncology Wellness are rooted in the growing amount of evidence that supports the role of exercise and mind-body interventions, such as yoga and meditation, in cancer care,” Dr. Hardacre says.“ These lifestyle strategies are central to improving treatment outcomes and promoting long-term health.”
“
Cancer wellness and survivorship represent a vital part of modern cancer care. It acknowledges that comprehensive care is more than eradicating cancer cells, it involves taking care of the patients as a whole. Moreover, survivorship points to the fact that in 2025, cancer treatments lead to many cures requiring careful follow-up years, sometimes decades, after the initial diagnosis.”
