Field – Initial Visit    The field crews should use the following checklist on the initial visit to the site.  FIELD – INITIAL VISIT CHECK-OFF LIST Park carefully.  Park in the street if the driveway is not clear.  Never park on the grass.  Park so that hoses and truck doors have plenty of room on concrete surfaces.  Do not create a secondary mess. Preview loss form for correct information. Equipment for initial inspection: carpet probe, moisture meter, camera, and dots. Introduce yourself to the customer.  Stand two or three steps away from the door.  Make sure your company name and your name are visible on your uniform.  Smile.  Introduce yourself by name, then company.  Do not enter the home until you are invited. Show empathy. Put down a mat at the front entrance. Ask the customer to show you the source of loss. Start the inspection at the place where the damage started. Locate all affected areas (carpet, contents, and/or structure) and mark with dots. Explain the drying process to the customer. (Use member brochures.) Have the customer sign pay authorization. Photograph the front of the house—with the owner’s permission. Document and take 3-5 pictures of the loss areas before any work is done.
