Lions Sponsor Library Projects

“ Lions clubs are helping to bridge the gap in literacy and education in their communities through projects that focus on the importance of reading.“
STANWOOD LIONS SPONSOR READING PRO- JECTS AT THE STAN- WOOD LIBRARY
Lions clubs everywhere are changing the lives of children and adults through the Lions Clubs International Reading Action Program Campaign. The program challenges Lions to make an impact in their communities through providing literacy projects. Nearly 800 million people across the globe lack the ability to read and write. Lions clubs are helping to bridge the gap in literacy and education in their communities through providing projects that focus on the importance of reading.
The Stanwood Lions Club is partnering with the Stanwood Public Library to get two projects started, one for children and one for adults. The project for children is called the Children’ s Books Recycling
project. This project is a way for children to feel pride in having books of their own as well as a way to keep children’ s books in use.
A bookrack display is set up in the library and ready for participation. Anyone who has“ gently used” children’ s books may donate them by taking them to the library and adding them to the display. Children may choose a book from the bookrack to take home as their own when they visit the library. Librarian Michelle Potter is helping to promote the project.
The adult project will begin in September with a“ Morning Book Social at the Library” taking place twice a month.
The Stanwood Lions will be providing coffee on the 2 nd Friday and 4 th Saturday mornings each month from 9:30- 10:30 AM and are inviting adults to come and socialize at the library. Patrons will have a chance to talk about good books they are reading or get suggestions from other patrons about books they might like to read. The Stanwood Lions are looking forward to socializing over coffee with community members who like to read or simply chat on Friday, September 13 and Saturday, September 28 at the library in Stanwood.
