CIVIL INSIGHT 2018 8 MESSAGE FROM THE DIRECTOR OF STUDENTS WELFARE DIRECTORATE Prof. Dr.-Ing. Ramesh Kumar Maskey Director, Students Welfare Directorate Kathmandu University It is indeed fascinating to learn that Kathmandu University Civil Engineering Club (KUCEC) is bringing its new edition of Civil Insight and Sankalpa-18 for the second time after a landslide success of starting the fi rst edition in 2017. I am very much delighted to observe the tireless efforts the KUCEC and the magazine’s Publication Committee, who is putting its energy in to organize an extraordinary civil exhibition and bring the magazine ‘Civil Insight: A Technical Magazine’. This magazine is a mirror of what KUCEC can do for the betterment of the civil engineering profession while still in University. KUCEC’s superb planning, organizing and executing skill for different activities in a coordinated manner is truly admirable. The publication of the technical magazine and the exhibition in itself is proof of the ability of future generations of civil engineers from Kathmandu University (KU). This truly refl ects the ability of students to transfer their knowledge from classrooms to practice. ‘University to Community’ is the main driving motor at KU. The present leadership has aimed at bringing the quality of education and the university life to an international level through various activities and one of them is to make this university student friendly. In this juncture, I strongly believe in the potentiality of our students to achieve heights provided an amicable environment to them. Students Welfare Directorate (SWD) of Kathmandu University will always be ready to achieve this aim for students in every possible manner. I am confi dent that civil engineering students of the Department of Civil and Geomatics Engineering with Architectural Program are embracing all the educational programs at both School of Engineering and School of Science to have a synergistic impact in making this event a grand success. On behalf of SWD, I am grateful to all organizations for their continued support and for their confi dence on our students to become a successful professional in the future through such kinds of activities. I thank the organizers, volunteers, faculties, and staffs of Kathmandu University to bring up such a commendable event. I wish the event organizers all the best for their future endeavor. Thank you.
