Einhorn digs Movie 43 Finkle loves House of Cards
Another one of those movies that brings us dozens of big names in short segments- this one was so funny I had to rent it twice! Now- when I say funny, I don’t mean “Christmas Vacation” funny, or the kind of laughs you get from “Liar Liar” or “Dumb and Dumber”. These are some of the worst jokes in movies today, but Finkle and I have a warped sense of humor and we can’t stop laughing when we recall certain skits! Some of our favorites: Emma Stone insisting that a hobo she had a fling with was a Wizard, Halle Berry making guacamole with her giant boob, and Dennis Quaid describing how he was able to sneak into Greg Kinnear’s office. Justin Long always brings his A-game, and this movie was no different as he played Batman’s sidekick Robin, and speaking of super-hero’s Christopher Mintz-Plasse from Kick Ass had me cracking up as he tried to help his younger brother and his girlfriend fix an awkward problem.
Kevin Spacey stars as a democrat congressman and this series shows his dirty dealings and political posturing that is aimed at getting revenge against the other government officials that kept him from becoming Secretary of State. The writing is superb, emotionally and psychologically taut, and costar Robin Wright (Buttercup in The Princess Bride) is just exquisite. This series is a Netflix original, but can be rented at the local video store on DVD. Hopefully the new Arrested Development will also be available for rent!
Okay- okay this movie was incredibly stupid! But sometimes stupid is just what you need! And some of the best laughs came from the unexpected serious stars Kate Winslet, Berry, Stone and action stars Hugh Jackman, Josh Duhamel and Gerard Butler. There are so many more names in this movie and the skits are just so off the wall and insanetotally gross! It got panned by most critics- but I found it much better than Valentine’s Day or New Year’s Eve or any of those other ensemble movies–plus it’s got Full Frontal Female Nudity!!
The subplots are always tied in to the main story line, and Spacey is just loveable as a bastard! The show feels like what the world of political intrigue could really be as seedy and full of underhanded dealings, with laws being passed to further careers and not for helping the people. My new favorite show and I can’t wait for next season!
