M
arch is a very special
month for the Welsh peo-
ple. The celebration kicks
off with St. David’s on 1st March.
However due to the dreaded storm
we were not able to celebrate with
the usual parade and march in Car-
marthen Town. As disappointed
as I was, the weather redeem itself
with a lovely weather on 25th March
with the celebration of Merlin’s Fes-
tival. Carmarthen has historically
had strong ties to the legend of Merlin; its
Welsh name is Caerfyddin, which trans-
lates as “Merlin’s Fort”. Close to the town
is Merlin’s Hill, an Iron Age fort said to
be the home and burial site of Merlin.
There are also many other great tales
of wizards closely linked with the area.
