Have you been on our website recently and noticed the latest improvements? Are you registered on the website? By being a registered user, you will be able to access a lot more functionalities. A few of these won’t be fully relevant while we are in lockdown such as booking onto a cruise or a ramble, register on the Crew exchange, but you can also place a for sale or wanted advert or consult Club documentation to name but a few. As I mentioned in a past edition of the Club magazine, before Covid19, the beginning of 2020 marked the start of the new three-year strategy for the Club, prepared by your General Committee, following wider consultation. As illustrated by the strategy banner you would have seen in the Club’s corridor, the strategy focuses on 4 areas which are described below: Strategy 1 - Strategy 2 - Strategy 3 - Strategy 4 - to maintain membership Recruitment and retention to facilitate member and non-member development via training and coaching to integrate our Club Marketing and Communications to improve the Club “Brand” to develop a sustainable and resilient Club for the future. As part of our Strategy 3, we planned the review and development of our website. We are therefore extremely grateful to Yacht Section member Anita Hedges, who came forward and offered her ser- vices as specialist in heuristic evaluation (no, I didn’t know what it was when I first heard of it) and usability testing. Anita conducted a series of interviews to identify areas of the website that could be improved. The interviews were categorised in two ways: one set of interviews was with non-users of the website and the second was with identified stakeholders who use it regularly. The main findings from the interviews could be categorised as follows: • • • • • • 10 Problems with logging In and registering Problems with navigation Problems when viewing on mobile devices Clutter and complexity Missing links between pages often used together. Search Engine Optimisation
