Smooth transitions : SpringRidge resident moves cross country
Though the world is in the midst of uncertain times , Melba Daniel knew with 100 % certainty transitioning to SpringRidge at Charbonneau from her home in Georgia was the absolute best decision for her and her family .
“ I lived in Pine Mountain for nearly a quarter of a century , and though my neighbors were very supportive , I didn ’ t have family close by ,” she explained . “ My family was the motivation to move to Oregon . My son lives in Canby and I have grandchildren and a great-granddaughter within close proximity .”
In addition to making the move across the country , the 85-year-old relied on her spirit of adventure when she entrusted her loved ones with selecting the senior living community she ’ d call home .
“ They looked at several places and thought SpringRidge was a safe , beautiful and upscale community that would fit my lifestyle ,” she said . “ They did very well in their selection . You can tell a lot of thought went into the community — from the building ’ s architecture to the amenities . One of the things I was most impressed by was the different levels of care . Since arriving at SpringRidge in June , Melba says not only has she been impressed with the staff , but also with the extensive precautions being taken to ensure residents ’ safety and wellbeing .
The active retirement community has implemented extensive cleaning and disinfecting protocols and stringent precautionary measures such as a thorough visitor screening process with temperature checks . Residents can also take comfort in the fact that there is a swift and responsive action plan in place , should the need arise , that includes targeted testing and contact tracing .
As SpringRidge continues to take steps to reopen , a measured approach to health and wellness has been developed by the team . A touch-free wellness program , for example , includes adapting favorite fitness , art and educational classes all with safeguards and precautionary measures in mind . Small group classes adhere to social distancing guidelines and the spacious outdoors provide the backdrop for exercise classes and live concerts .
“ I ’ ve been spending a lot of time admiring the lovely grounds ,” said Melba , a former homemaker who was married to a Methodist preacher . “ I ’ m able to look out my patio door and see birds , squirrels , flowers and beautifully landscaped courtyards . The outdoors are also great for enjoying a pleasant walk or spending time with visiting family .”
She ’ s looking forward to hosting them for dinner once things return to normal . She relishes no longer having to cook and was thrilled when the onsite restaurant , The Charbonneau Room , recently reopened for in-person dining .
“ The staggered dining times have worked out very well ,” she explained . “ We make reservations and are kept at a safe distance from our dinner partners . The food options are great and I ’ ve met such nice people at dinner .”
Melba hopes to be fully settled by the time SpringRidge resumes the full calendar of social and educational programs . She ’ s excited to play bridge and other board games with fellow neighbors and participate in the many outings and excursions .

“ I haven ’ t worried about a thing since moving to SpringRidge . I know everything is taken care of here ,” she said . “ I was on the phone with a friend and I mentioned a member of the maintenance team was stopping by to replace the garbage disposal . She said , ‘ You didn ’ t have to buy the disposal and didn ’ t need to find the plumber to install it .’ She ’ s right . The maintenance-free lifestyle is fabulous . This a well-run , well-staffed community .”
