Hole-in-one : club ’ s sixth of the year
Congratulations to Ken Waldren who scored a hole-in-one May 19 on Green No . 2 . This is Ken ’ s second official holein-one while he claims a third one via COVID-19 rules where the ball did not stay in the hole , but bounced away .
Couple of reminders
Drop zones : While drop zones may be marked on the course , they are not to be used during Men ’ s Club play . Instead follow the rules of golf for red staked hazards which allow three options : 1 . Re-hit from the tee 2 . Two club lengths from where the ball entered the hazard 3 . Go as far back as you choose on a line from the pin to where your ball first crossed the hazard .
It has been a while since we have had rakes in the bunkers , so it ’ s a good time to review where to place them after you have hit your shot and raked the bunker . While there is no established national standard , our course
|
has adopted the policy that rakes should be “ T ’ d in ” to the bunker with the handle pointed out on the edge of the bunker . Placing the rakes in this way avoids having a rake laid outside the bunker which may interfere or stop a ball that would otherwise have gone in the bunker .
Rule of the month
Last month in this column there was an indication the Men ’ s Club would consider a local rule to deal with the situation where a sprinkler head was in the direct path of putting to the hole . The rule would only apply to “ closely mown ” areas which for Charbonneau would mean the fringe and approaches .
Given the limited areas where this occurs on our course , it was decided that a local rule is not necessary . So , while you are generally entitled to relief from a sprinkler head when it interferes with your “ stance , live ball or area of intended swing ,” this does not apply in closely mown areas surrounding the green or on the green itself . So , you can chip , putt over the sprinkler head or go around it . Good luck !
