ing or bookkeeping background as they transition into that role . Are you that person ?
Our association secretary , Lynda Huber Marshall , has been doing double duty as both board secretary and secretary to the Festival Organizing Committee , the group of volunteers that puts on our annual three-day arts festival . We hope
to find someone who enjoys the role of committee recorder to take over that function with the Festival Organizing Committee , which is chaired by photographer Rick Cady .
For several years , Shirley Hoem has helped organize our festival volunteers , and we need someone who enjoys working with people to step into that role . We hope that in 2021 we will again hold an in-person arts festival and that is when our need for occasional volunteers increases tremendously .
Doing double duty , Shirley has also led the effort to include artisans in our annual festival . In previous years we have had about 30 skilled artists show their work in booths like a mini Saturday Market . I know that someone would enjoy volunteering to help organize the arts and craft part of our annual festival . Increasingly , social media plays a huge role in any enterprise . The Charbonneau Arts Association needs to find someone comfortable with posting to social media sites to help us promote Charbonneau Arts , including Facebook , Instagram , and other popular social sites .
More broadly , our association welcomes volunteers whatever their interests . If you would like to help a nonprofit organization in Charbonneau that deals with the arts , please contact one of us . Our Festival Organizing Committee can accommodate your interest and time frame for volunteering .
There are numerous ways , large and small , to get involved with the Charbonneau Arts Association . And you don ’ t have to be an artist per se . The main prerequisites are having an interest in the arts and a desire to support art education programs in our local schools .
If at all intrigued , please contact one of us for more information .

Charbonneau Country Club looks for ways to encourage an active lifestyle

New water sports center , pickleball courts , virtual classes are among the ideas

BY COREY BUCHANAN
While the outside world may seem more precarious than ever before , leading an active lifestyle is no less valuable during a pandemic .
And this is why Charbonneau Country Club is working on finding more ways to encourage community members to stay fit .
“ Our biggest struggle is being able to keep residents active in the time of CO- VID ,” said Eugene Tish , club president . “ It ’ s hard on everyone ’ s outlook on life . We ’ re doing the best we can to find ways to keep our people active .”
For one , the club is considering the addition of a center for community members to store their paddleboards , kayaks and canoes at the Charbonneau marina to go along with a boat launch . The club recently purchased a boat house at the marina for $ 10,000 , according to Eugene , which may pave the way for the new center .
“ It was a great buy and was something we thought we should take advantage
of for the benefit of our residents ,” Eugene said , adding that between 80 and 100 Charbonneau residents indicated in a recent survey that they would like a place at the marina to store their equipment .
A club task force is assessing the possibility of adding the center , but a timeline has not been established .
CCC Director John McLain said he wasn ’ t sure whether the capacity for the center would be around 20 slots or much higher and this question could determine whether the center would be open to non-CCC residents .
Another idea the club is considering is adding covering to the CCC tennis
club courts and allowing pickleball to be played on one of the courts . CCC General Manager Jim Meierotto said they could provide a similar option at Edith Green Park .
“ Particularly in communities with demographics like ours , pickleball has become wildly popular . You can have a good time and fun playing at any age or skill level ,” Eugene said .
He also said the Charbonneau Golf Club , which merged with CCC earlier this year , soon would allow residents to walk across the golf course ’ s ninth hole pathway to encourage regular jaunts .
