By MARY FIEWEGER
Our fi rst scramble is coming up soon
We started our 2022 season with some cold weather and a few brave golfers . Teeing
FIEWEGER off at 38 degrees ( in lots of layers ) were Ellen Newbore , Beth Martin , Karen Siegel and Rebecca Kremer .
Thanks to the Scoring Committee , Karla Colby and Beth Martin , for their hard work reassigning teams and tee times due to the number of cancellations .
The Welcome Back Coffee was a great success thanks to Bobbi Christensen and her committee . Thank you Charbonneau Salon and Lux Sucre for our door prizes . New members were introduced . What a fun event led by Jeanie Paque in the format of Jeopardy ! questions on rules and golf trivia had contestants Janie Olson , Joyce Bowden and Jane Teunon vying for top prize ( the most chocolate kisses ).
Thanks to all who signed up to help with our many committees . We ’ re still looking for a chair and / or co-chair for our Member Guest Day Tuesday , June 28 . Still looking to join a committee ? Please contact Cathy Loffink to select one that needs help .
Save the Date : Our first Scramble , ‘ Hit Me With Your Best Shot ,’ is Tuesday , May 10 . The sign-up book is in the pro shop .
Thanks to chairperson , Leesa Gango , and her committee for their hard work and fun events for the scramble .
The Niners Social Members are a big support to all our events and scrambles . They are there on Tuesday mornings to welcome us and cheer us on .
We are saddened to learn of the passing of our Niner , Sandy Hampton . She was a dear friend to both Brenda Gardiner and Vicky Klingerman .
We are moving our storage area in the clubhouse . Recognizing our need for more space to combine Pink Ball and Niners materials , we have been assigned the large room previously used by the Sunshine Service . Will the REAL Mary Costa please stand up ! In last month ’ s issue I featured Mary as a new member BUT had the information on Christine Reeder . It was amazing the things they had in common , especially rowing in the Dragon Boats .
Mary moved to Charbonneau last July . She is active in Solo Sisters and the organization New Comers of Lake Oswego ,
The Niners club supported Wilsonville High girls golfers at a recent competition .
which is open to women in surrounding areas . She is a retired nurse of 40 years working in Maternity , Labor and Delivery in San Mateo , California and became the director of the department . She enjoys traveling and cruises with friends and has been to Europe and Australia . Mary can also be found playing bridge and Mahjong . And like Christine , she was also rowing with the dragon boats while she was in San Francisco . Touring wineries and wine tasting are top on our list . And yes , Smile when you see Mary as she is our club photographer !
And we welcome Rebecca Kremer . She is originally from the New Jersey area then New York . She recently retired from Nike as its global golf apparel lead . See Rebeccain in the photo of four brave golfers and of course wearing a Nike hat . She has three children , a son in Utah and a twin boy and girl who are attending NYU and OSU . Rebecca has been married for 33 years and stays active helping homeless shelters for women and groups empowering women . She is taking horseback riding lessons and will be taking a safari this fall . Also , Rebecca enjoys cooking to the delight of her husband . She is on the board for the Lake Oswego Dance Team .

Springtime golf will be fun . Our season is off to a good start with many new members .
The Niners also support the Wilsonville High School girls golf team . The first tournament for the multi-school event was held in Charbonneau . They came in first place . Maureen Larsen , chair for the girls golf team , arranged to welcome them with cookies , water , and fruit . In the photo you can see them wearing the jackets and hats we purchased for them . Chris Bensel , their coach , also bought them golf balls with their school logo . They are thankful for our support and we are proud of their success .
