Charbonneau Golf Club

By Bill Bray

Full service food menu now offered at club

As I take on the role of president of the Charbonneau Golf Club , I am mindful of the big shoes I
BRAY have to fill , both literally
and metaphorically , following Dale Owen and Joe Brouillette . Under the direction of Dale and Joe , the Charbonneau Golf Course was put on solid financial footing and the board took numerous actions to make the golf course self-sustaining . I , along with a great board of directors , will do my best to support Chris Bensel and our OB Sports staff and maintenance crews to keep us on a positive track .
Joe Brouillette ’ s last major initiative as president was to begin a significant remodel of the golf course ’ s “ The Turn ” snack bar into a more full-service food and beverage venue that not only serves golfers but the much larger Charbonneau community . While “ The Turn ” met all our expectations and profitably contributed more revenue to our operations , the kitchen equipment was basic and limited our menu . Because of food prep and storage constraints , we never actively promoted the venue outside of golfers .
OB Sports Food Service Group took the lead on this project , bringing in outside restaurant experts to layout our kitchen , source equipment and contract with In Your Home Construction , a local remodeling contractor , to perform and sub out the actual reconstruction

New to The Market Café at Charbonneau are a full grill , deep fryers , a pizza oven and prep table , a sandwich and meal prep table , a significant increase in cold storage , hot and cold display cases for grab ‘ n go food items and a high-end self-serve fresh brew coffee machine . We offer an expanded à la carte menu , including freshly made pizzas and salads and an assortment of ready-made items for people who are on the go . The Market Café at Charbonneau has also remodeled the dining area with capacity for 28 to go along with the outdoor tent area overlooking the course .
To have a successful restaurant operation you need good equipment , good ingredients and good people . We are very fortunate to have two such people leading our food and beverage operation . Once you meet Nicole Guedon , our food and beverage manager , you know that you have met a people person . Her experience with events and opening new restaurants matches expertise with personality . Under her leadership , our limited food and beverage operation grew revenue by over 40 % in the last year . With the expanded food preparation equipment , Nicole also plans to increase our ability to cater more functions in Charbonneau , outside of those functions connected with golf .
If you asked Nicole what some of her biggest accomplishments since taking charge of the Charbonneau Golf Club food & beverage operation were , she would tell you that the recent hire of our new line chef and assistant food and beverage manager , Dominic Wargo , ranks right up there . Dominic joins our staff in a full-time capacity , having recently been employed as a line chef at Langdon Farms . Dominic graduated from Boise State University , and , while going to school , worked as a cook in a small rehabilitation facility . There he learned to value and appreciate the ability to create well-prepared foods . Nicole was quoted as saying that Dominic was the candidate she wanted not only because he had food preparation skills but because of his outward , engaging personality and desire to take on new challenges . When asked about what he expects of the Market Café at Charbonneau , Dominic said : “ I think this café is going to be a genuinely great place for people to unwind after a round of golf and an even better place for Charbonneau residents to meet up and mingle with friends and family over some drinks and good food ”. We agree , Dominic . Come join us .

We had to cancel our May fashion show and luncheon due to COVID-19

HUBER MARSHALL
It is with regret that we had to cancel our May fashion show / luncheon due to recent outbreaks of COVID-19 . I truly am sorry that we were not able to hold this lovely event .
Our co-chairs Kathy Fisher and Robin Gowdy had so many wonderful plans . It has been a difficult year as many events have had to be canceled . I certainly hope this is the last time .
I want to thank each member for your emails and phone calls as well as give a special thank you for all the time and effort each board and committee member gave to CWA this year . It was a pleasure to work with this fabulous team . I look forward to working with each of them in the future on whatever projects we might find ourselves working on together .
We have great plans for 2022-2023 . Lindy Anderson will be our new president . She and I have been working on entertainment and speakers . Our plans include a variety of events so hopefully everyone will find enjoyment .
To keep us connected over the summer , we have an opportunity for 30 members to attend a special wine tasting event at Lady Hill Winery at 4 p . m . June 27 . The cost is $ 25 . Sign up in the Event Center coat room and deposit your check as we do for the luncheons . The book will note if all tickets are sold out . Our board for 2022-23 : President Lindy Anderson , vice presidents of catering Marikate Book and Georgia Bushman , secretary Claudia deVries and treasurer Pat Tewell Communications : Cathy Loffick and Bee Benesh Membership : Paula Johnson and Cathy Renken Decorations : Kathy Fuller and Darlene Crosby Sunshine / Wine / Coffee events : Sandy Shaner and Mary

Our fashion show co-chairs , Kathy and Robin , will continue to bring their plans and hopefully all the 2022 models to the stage for that event .
We are still in need of a communications member to send out emails and co-chairs for the annual Christmas event . Feel free to call me at 503-422-5617 if you have questions about what these positions entail or to volunteer .
It has been my pleasure to serve as your president this year . Being involved has given me the opportunity to meet and get to know so many wonderful women . I value each acquaintance and friendship made . Thank you .
As we break for summer , watch your email for membership information and mark your calendars for September 12 for our first fall luncheon . Until then take care and enjoy summer .
