“ Hi , I ’ m Jamie . I ’ m 4 and I live in this great big house called The Cypress House . I have been here about a month but before that I
WIESENTHAL lived with my mom in a tent . Mom said
we were camping , whatever that is . One night a man came into the tent and he and mom yelled at each other a lot . Then they left and I stayed in the tent but they never came back . I was really hungry and asked a man in a blue suit with a bunch of buttons on it if he could give me something to eat . He didn ’ t but he called a lady who took me out of the tent and gave me to someone else . That person ’ s name is
Ann and she fed me and took me to this Cypress House .
“ Well , Cypress House is really cool . I have a whole big room all to myself and even a closet . I was supposed to put my clothes in the closet but I only had what I was wearing . So Ann gave me a bunch of clothes and I even have a blanket to keep me warm at night . I have to stay in my room all night . I peek out my door sometimes , but she is always there .
“ When I eat I have to sit on a chair and not walk around . I eat a lot now and save some in my pockets for later just in case . Ann says that ’ s OK but I really don ’ t need to do that . She is right about most things but when I get really mad like yesterday when Mike hit me . She said he wasn ’ t supposed to do that but I shouldn ’ t hit him back twice . So I had to sit in the swing chair in the therapy room until I wasn ’ t so mad . Then I did what they call play dough . But I wasn ’ t supposed to eat it . So , I ’ m only 4 and never did play dough before .
“ I think I want to live here forever . This place has a cool room with

butterflies all over the walls and pictures of animals in the halls . My bedroom has a great big lion in it . I was really scared when I saw it but Ann laughed and said it was just a stuffed toy . One of the other bedrooms has stars and stuff all over it and even on the ceiling .”
This representative story of Jamie is similar to what the children at Cypress House have experienced on a daily basis . Several of the women from the Cypress

Branch of Boys & Girls Aid visited the house a few days ago . It is called Cypress House because we and many others contributed our time , resources and energy to make this wonderful place a reality . The house is real , the children are real and the wonderful folk who work there are real and carefully trained to do what they do . They are good and we all say a big THANK YOU !
