Communications Chair

Respect board members ’ right to privacy
SWITZER
When I became chair of our Communications Committee in 2020 , I pledged to the membership that we would be open , transparent and do everything we could to keep our residents informed . Working with staff and the entire board , those goals have been and continue to be met . Obviously , COVID-19 has put a damper on our ability to get together . But we have completely revived the website to keep it up to date . The office puts out a steady stream of emails keeping people informed on both upcoming events and urgent matters needing attention . We meet regularly with the HOA presidents to keep open channels of communication . And , as soon as possible , we plan to re-start our “ fireside ” chats .
Recently , the discussions surrounding the future of Edith Green Sports Park have triggered lots of conversation . Discussions and website clips of our HOA budget have been found on Facebook and Nextdoor . There is probably a Tik-Tok challenge out there as well . Several members of the community have felt it appropriate to show up at the homes of board members . One even walked into my backyard last summer while I was hosting friends .
First , we don ’ t engage in discussion and debate on social media . Second , information on our website is for our residents and is copyrighted . Taking it from the website verbatim ( cut and paste ) and posting it on Facebook is a

violation of that copyright and invites cyber-attacks . You would not share your checkbook or family financial plan with the neighborhood . There is a difference between “ secret ” and “ private .” The information on our website is private and for our members only , period .
It is easy to lose sight of the fact that the Board is made up of volunteers that put in plenty of time to make our community better . We have an HOA administrative office ( located in the Activity Center ) with a knowledgeable and friendly staff . In order to communicate with a board member , simply contact the office at office @ charbonneaucountryclub . com or drop by with your correspondence . You can even mail to CCC , 32000 SW Charbonneau Drive , Wilsonville , OR , 97070 . The appropriate board member will get the letter or email . Mailing a letter with your comments , good or bad , directly to an individual board member ’ s home might seem benign , but it is actually an invasion of their privacy . If you have a complaint or compliment about Fred Meyer you send it to the corporate office , not the store manager ’ s home . It is the same with sending emails to a board member ’ s personal account . If I use my personal email to respond to an HOA matter , my entire email account then becomes open for review if the issue develops into a legal matter . Just as you would not use your personal email to conduct business for your job , the same applies here . We need to keep HOA business within the HOA . We all have personal lives . Recently , some board members are going through their own medical or family issues and having their privacy invaded is the height of disrespect , especially when there are plenty of other avenues to use to communicate .
We can disagree . We can even debate a point . But we are all a part of the Charbonneau community and need to approach these disagreements with respect . I think we can find a lot more that we can agree on than disagree .
In a 1911 landmark Supreme Court decision , Chief Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes , Jr . opined that the “ right ” of a citizen to sell a currently owned life insurance policy for its highest value IS protected . Such a transaction in today ’ s parlance is known as a “ life settlement ”. Subsequent court rulings have upheld and agreed and thus have continued to protect the right of any consumer who seeks to receive such a settlement .
When focused on Fair Market Value , a life insurance policy may be a more difficult asset to correctly value and properly maintain particularly as many insureds reach older ages . In addition to affordability , several other financial elements that are not always apparent to policy owners or advisors can become highly significant .

Not to be Forgotten
Here are the three most IMPORTANT questions to ask .
1 ) Based on the current premium ( or lack of ) will the policy last as long as the person insured by it ?
2 ) Does the original purpose for the policy remain or could it be beneficially REPURPOSED ?
3 ) Does the current policy cash surrender value represent its ACTUAL “ fair market ” VALUE ?
Comprehensive Life Settlement Solution provides your best opportunity for accurate policy appraisals and potential financial offers . Our focus is helping clients age 70 or older to MONETIZE an existing policy that you may no longer require or one that has become too EXPENSIVE to do so . Regular insurance company annual statements and / or random estimates of POLICY values are often understated or completely inaccurate when left to those not sufficiently experienced and licensed to provide such valuations .
