Charbonneau Golf Club offers glow in the dark putting , movie night

Charbonneau Golf Club is ready for summer ! That was the announcement from CGC Board President Bill Bray as we sat in Head Professional Chris Bensel ’ s office . Bray , who started his first term as president in April , is very excited about the coming season .
“ We obviously have had a lot more rain than usual . For a golf course , that is good and bad ,” he said . Playing conditions have been a little soggy ( especially on the Red course ) but it has given the club time to completely revitalize the irrigation system , including putting in a new pump at the Willamette River and “ cleaning ” the main irrigation pond next to the clubhouse . Matt Collier , golf course superintendent , continues to have the course in great playing condition . We all remember the tree damage from the freeze last year . This took away not only financial resources but manpower as well . With that in the rearview mirror , CGC is back on track with a continuing program of upgrades for the golfers .
On the yellow course , the main drain that consisted of cement culverts was replaced with an underground system . The lateral drain project continues , connecting to the main lines . This will make a huge difference in the overall playing condition of yellow . Bensel points out that the same plan has been approved for the Green Course and that the project will start next year . Course aeration is done at least twice a year on the greens and fairways . This process is important for the goal of getting healthy grass throughout the course .
Besides the much anticipated opening of the new Market Café , there are plenty of fun activities and events planned for Charbonneau residents and their families . Out on the lawn “ Movie Night ,” for example , will allow families to stretch out on the lawn and enjoy a family film on a 12-foot screen . Also planned are music events , a concert ( or two ) and other activities not traditionally seen at a golf course .
Charbonneau Men ’ s Club hosts events for its members , as does Charbonneau Women ’ s Golf Association ( CWGA ) and The Niner ’ s ( women ’ s nine hole golf group ). CGC also hosts

a couples tournament every other Friday with food , prizes and fun . This event is a nine-hole “ scramble ” with either four- or six-person teams and other fun formats . Not just limited to Charbonneau residents , participants are welcome to invite friends and family from other clubs .
One of the events planned will be “ glow in the dark putting .” Bensel ’ s eyes lit up as he brought out the props that will be used for the event .
“ Folks can bring their kids and grandkids and enjoy an evening of fun and laughter ,” he said .
This can be for both the golfer and non-golfer and fun for the whole family .
The vision of Charbonneau has always been community . Charbonneau Golf Course continues to be a centerpiece for our community and its activities . Not everyone golfs . But everyone can enjoy the beauty of the green space and the many fun activities planned .
